In Memoriam

Those of this family who were murdered in the Shoah, remembered here by name. Their footstones at Wellwood Cemetery in New York — placed by the survivors Moses & Regina Lazerowitz and the Moskovic family — carry the names of the murdered so that they would not be forgotten; others here are documented from Yad Vashem Pages of Testimony and community yizkor books. זכרונם לברכה — may their memory be a blessing.

Emanuel's daughter (by Julie Fisher) and Eugene's half-sister; murdered in the Shoah.
Son of Emanuel & Johanna (Hanni) Klein, born 4 Aug 1899 in Zselíz (Želiezovce); a full brother of Eugene. He married Leonora Klein on 1 Aug 1926 (Slovakia synagogue register). Johanna Klein's three sons were Lajos (1893), Rudolf (1899) and Eugene (1903). Murdered in the Shoah — a 1942 Auschwitz death (recorded as 19 Aug 1942 in the family tree of his great-nephew Yoel Goldberger; likely a deportation date).
Rudolf's wife; Eugene's sister-in-law. Born 24 Mar 1904 in Trenčianska Teplá (Trenčín district), daughter of Max Klein and Ester.
Maria's mother; Hebrew name Miriam, née Friedman; wife of Tzvi Hersh Gottlieb of Satu Mare. She outlived her husband by a decade and was murdered at Auschwitz on 1 June 1944, in the deportation of the Jews of the Satu Mare region that spring, together with…
Maria's sister; married Kovari-Steinberg. Murdered at Auschwitz in 1944, with her mother Miriam (Gitelman tree).
Helena's maternal grandfather — father of Regina (Klein) Berkovits. Born 17 Jan 1862 in Uzhorod; a Jewish-community employee who lived in Senica.
Zenta
Simon Meir Klein's second wife and the mother of the Klein children below (a step-grandmother on Helena's side). Born ~1874 (Zenta/Sighet in variant records); lived in Senica; murdered 1942–44 (Yad Vashem).
Regina Berkovits's half-brother; son of Simon Klein and Julia Stein, of Senica. Born 1908; murdered in the Shoah (Yad Vashem, testimony by his brother Moshe).
Regina's half-brother; son of Simon Klein and Julia Stein (lived Trnava). Born 1910; murdered in the Shoah (Yad Vashem, testimonies by his siblings Roza and Moshe).
Regina's half-brother; son of Simon Klein and Julia Stein. Born 1900; lived in Nová Bošáca; murdered in the Shoah (Yad Vashem).
Helena's sister. Born ~1909 in Senica; married Jozef Kohn and lived in Prostějov, Moravia.
Herminka Berkovits's husband. Born 1915 in Bratislava (his parents: Leizer/Eliezer Kohn and Miriam); a merchant in Prostějov, Moravia.
Helena's nephew — son of Herminka (Berkovits) and Jozef Kohn. Born 1937 in Prostějov; died in Theresienstadt in 1943, about six years old (Yad Vashem, Page of Testimony by Gabor Berkovits).
Helena's niece — daughter of Herminka (Berkovits) and Jozef Kohn, and René's sister. Born 30 Oct 1934 in Prostějov; murdered at Auschwitz in 1943 (Yad Vashem, Page of Testimony by a neighbour, Maud Beer).
Helena's brother. Born 1916 in Senica; a commercial traveller (hatter), unmarried.
Of Habura (the family also at Medzilaborce / Vyšný Svidník). Most of his children and their families were murdered in the Shoah — Yad Vashem documents some 25 murdered Moskovics of the Medzilaborce area. His youngest son Bernard (b. 1912) survived and emigrated to New York, and Jack (Jacques) survived in France; the brothers Izak (1888), Khaim/Markus (1897) and likely Juda (1897) and Moises (1911) were murdered.
Khaim's wife, b. 1903. Murdered in the Holocaust with Khaim and their five children (deported to Auschwitz, 1942). Named on Khaim's Page of Testimony.
Bernard's brother; secular name Markus. A merchant, resident of Vyšný Svidník, Slovakia. Married Etel Wieler. Per his Page of Testimony (submitted 1953), he, Etel and their five children were deported in Elul (autumn) 1942 to Auschwitz and murdered (the testimony also records Levoča). Four children are listed, aged about 14, 12, 8 and 6 (the youngest reads 'Avram'; the other names are hard to decipher).
Izak's wife; murdered in the Shoah.
Bernard's brother; a merchant of Vyšný Svidník. Married Lina Lea née Broder. Murdered in the Shoah (Yad Vashem Page of Testimony: b. 1888 Medzilaborce, son of Moshe and Miriam).
Bernard's brother (per the family). Of Medzilaborce; deported and murdered at Auschwitz on 19 Jun 1942 — the same day as his brother Moises. His Yad Vashem records are deportation/murder lists (no parentage field), so the link to Moses & Miriam rests on family testimony plus the demographic fit. Caution: at least one other Moskovic family lived in Medzilaborce (e.g., Chana Moszkowicz, b. 1895, was a daughter of Ignatz & Sheindl), so the Slovak birth-register request (drafted) is needed to settle his parentage.
Bernard's brother (per the family). Of Medzilaborce; deported and murdered at Auschwitz on 19 Jun 1942 — the same day as his brother Juda. As with Juda, his Yad Vashem record is a deportation list without a parentage field; brotherhood rests on family testimony and the demographic fit, pending the Slovak birth register (a second Moskovic family also lived in Medzilaborce).
Etel's mother — Khaim's mother-in-law; born about 1861 in Vyšný Svidník, wife of Pinkhas Willer. Murdered in the Shoah (she died in occupied Poland); remembered on her granddaughter Khana (Marva)'s Page of Testimony (Yad Vashem 369507).
Son of Khaim and Etel; about 14 when he was murdered in 1942. Recorded at Yad Vashem (8657975), from his surviving sister Khana (Marva)'s testimony.
Son of Khaim and Etel; about 12 when he was murdered in 1942 (Yad Vashem 8657976).
Child of Khaim and Etel; about 8 when murdered in 1942 (Yad Vashem 8657978). The record does not state whether Zisha was a boy or a girl.

Wife of Mordekhai Leib (the baker); daughter of Avraham Sultanik and Golda. Of Sosnowiec; murdered in the Shoah.
